Does any Smart Door Lock work with a multi-point locking system? (e.g. 3-point or 4-point locking system)
Not all Smart Door Locks work with multi-point locking systems. This article will help you to understand which one to select based on your current multi-point system.
What is a multi-point locking system?
A multipoint locking system is a type of door hardware that locks at different points in the door.
The most common system has locking points at the top, middle and bottom.
Will it work with our Smart Door Locks?
The first thing you need to determine is whether the existing handle supports the following operations;
- When you push the lever down, all the locking points retract.
- When you lift the lever up, all the locking points throw out.
Which Smart Door Lock Model to select?
This depends on a lot of factors such as the existing mortise backset, the width of the door frame, the thickness of the door etc.
In our experience the
SDL-S2 is usually the best option for multipoint doors, as it has the greatest handle rotation. However, some people have experienced complexities with installation due to their existing locking system.
Will I be able to keep using the emergency mechanical key?
If the existing mortise has a European key cylinder and the pitch is 85mm you will be able to use your emergency mechanical key. The Pitch of the mortise is the distance between the centre of the handle and the centre of the cylinder.
