DEFINITIONS

  • Backset (BS) - Distance from the start of the faceplate (including) to the centre of the square spindle hole
  • Total Mortise Width (TW) - This is the total width of the lock body; from the start of the faceplate (including) to the end of the lock body. This will determine the size of the pocket/cavity to be cut into the door.
  • Minimum Door Frame (stile) width (DF Minimum) - Minimum distance from the edge of the door frame to any glass or moulding. This is to ensure that the smart door lock panel sits entirely on the flat surface of the door.

Selecting the correct mortise lock body

How to select the mortise lock body for smart door lock

  1. The mortises options are grouped by the door type (i.e. For swing doors and sliding doors). Make sure you only look at the options related to your door type.
  2. Measure your door lock stile/frame (DF Available) - This is the distance from the edge of the door to any glass or moulding. From the table above, you can only choose options which has a minimum door frame width less than or equal to the door lock stile (i.e. DF Minimum <= DF Available)
  3. Find the Backset (BS) - Divide the door lock stile value (DF Available) in half. Ideally, you want to find a mortise lock body with a backset nearest to this number. That way, when you install the lock it will sit in the middle of the door frame. E.g. If your door lock stile is 65 mm. You should choose the 30 mm backset mortise or the 35 mm backset mortise.
