Latch will not extend to lock or even hold the front door closed

The power cables could be in the way of the latch moving
Remove the interior panel from the door and inspect the cable and make sure it's tucked away in the door cavity/cut-out away from the latch and spindle (the square shaft).

The spindle (the square shaft) may be too long
If the spindle you have used is too long for your door thickness, this could create friction and stop the latch from springing back into place. If you take the interior panel off the door and turn the external handle down, the latch should spring back into place.
