Smart Lock Handle Has Lost Resistance

Smart Lock Handle Has Lost Resistance

If the handle is loose or coming off, this can usually be fixed by removing the lock from the door and tightening the screws. If the handle turns freely or feels like it has lost resistance, please continue reading.

All smart locks use a tension ring to maintain handle resistance. Applying excessive pressure, forcing the handle, or over-rotating it can cause the tension ring to dislodge or stretch out of shape.

In some models, the tension ring can be accessed by removing the lock from the door and refitting it correctly or replacing it. In other models, the tension ring is not accessible, and the lock panel will need to be replaced.
