Why does my lock's battery drain so quickly, not even lasting close to the average 6-month duration as claimed?
Our locks are designed to have batteries that last approximately 6 months with average usage. If your lock's battery is draining faster than expected, there are a few factors you can check to determine the underlying cause.
Sync your lock with the app
In some cases, the TTLock app may not show the correct battery level if the lock is not properly synced. To resync, stand close to the lock and unlock it using the TTLock app. This refreshes the connection and updates the battery status.
Rust on the battery terminal
Rust or corrosion on the battery terminal can prevent the lock from detecting the battery level correctly. Inspect the terminals and clean or replace them if required.
Loose or damaged cable
A loose or damaged internal cable can interfere with battery detection. Check that all cables are securely connected and free from damage.
Firmware not up to date
Firmware updates for smart locks are crucial software improvements that fix bugs, boost security, enhance performance (like battery life, motor control, connectivity), and add new features, ensuring the lock stays modern and reliable without needing hardware replacement, usually installed through the lock's app over Bluetooth while the phone is nearby. Performing a bulky firmware update could also result in batteries to drain. Therefore always install brand new batteries after a firmware update.
Lock is stuck
Reset the lock and install brand new batteries. Follow the instructions in the
article to reset the lock and restore normal operation.
Is your lock exposed to rain?
Heavy or continuous rain can lead to water entering the electronics, which may cause rapid battery drain.
Is your lock exposed to direct sunlight or rain splashes?
Direct sunlight or water splashing onto the keypad can trigger unwanted activation. This increased activity can cause the batteries to drain faster.
Is the lock installed in a coastal area?
Exposure to salt spray in coastal environments can cause battery terminals to corrode and may affect the electronics. As a result, battery life can be significantly reduced.
If the steps above do not solve the problem, please send us the following.
1. Screenshots from the app showing the battery level immediately after new batteries are installed, and again a few days later once the batteries have drained.
2. A screenshot from the app confirming that the firmware is up to date.
3. A clear, zoomed-out photo showing the area where the lock is installed.
