Why does my SDL-R1 deadbolt not locking all the way?

If your SDL-R1 deadbolt does not fully extend when locking, it is usually caused by one of the following issues.

Alignment issue

If the interior panel is not perfectly aligned with the strike box, the deadbolt will not be able to extend fully.

To test for alignment:

  1. Remove the strike box from the door frame

  2. Hold the strike box next to the interior panel and ensure they are properly aligned (This will trigger the lock operation)

If the deadbolt fully extends during this test, the issue is caused by misalignment between the lock and the strike box. Adjusting the strike box position should resolve the problem.

Tailpiece length

If the tailpiece is too long for the door thickness or not seated correctly, it can create friction and prevent the deadbolt from extending all the way.

Check that the tailpiece only comes out 3 notches from the inside of the door and that it is properly inserted into the interior panel during installation. Reinstalling the lock and ensuring the tailpiece is centred and the correct length may resolve the issue.

Idea
If the steps above do not solve the problem, please send us the following.
1. A short video demonstrating the issue
2. Video of locking and unlocking with the key (with the door open)
3. Photo showing how far the tailpiece extends from the inside of the door
